MLB: Milestones en masse in Colorado

The Colorado Rockies are heading for the playoffs and can rely on top performances from the left side of their infield. Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story now reached special milestones in their 10-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Rockies won the four-game series against Arizona 3-1 and thus distanced their opponents in the National League West to 4.5 games. For the Third Baseman and the Shortstop it was also statistically a special day.

In the first inning, Arenado hit a home run which, according to Statcast, flew 464 feet. This was Arenado’s longest home run since data collection began in 2015, and what’s more: the homerun brought his RBI account to 100, making him only the fourth third baseman ever with four seasons in a row of at least 30 home runs (34) and 100 RBI. Before him only Alex Rodriguez, Chipper Jones and ex-Rockies player Vinny Castilla managed this.

For Story, his 2-Run-Homer was in the third inning of the 33rd home run of the season, setting a new franchise record. He thus surpassed the previous record set by Troy Tulowitzki, who is now active in Toronto.

The Rockies lead the West NL with 1.5 games ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers and could take a division title for the first time in their history. So far, they have reached the playoffs four times each by wildcard – most recently in 2017.
