Boxing: Revanche between Mayweather and Pacquiao?
PR gag or serious comeback plans? Floyd Mayweather met his old opponent Manny Pacquiao during a visit to Tokyo and promptly announced another duel.
Mayweather posted a video of the verbose encounter at Instagram and wrote: “I’m coming back to fight Manny Pacquiao this year. Another nine-figure payday.” In May 2015, the boxing superstar defeated the Filipino Pacquiao in Las Vegas in a highly acclaimed but ultimately unspectacular duel for the World Weight Championship. The American collected around 150 million dollars, Pacquaio 100 million dollars in wages.
41-year-old Mayweather resigned one fight later to box and win again against MMA star Conor McGregor in a much-criticized show match in 2017. His record is 50 victories in 50 duels.
Pacquiao won the World Championship title in July against the Argentinian Lucas Martin Matthysse after a one-year break after the WBA version in welterweight. Of 69 fights, he won 60 and lost seven.
