MLB: New York promotes its top talent
The New York Yankees have appointed their top prospect Justus Sheffield to the MLB team. The left-hander is about to make his debut in the Big Leagues.
Sheffield played for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season and is a budgetary starter who has worked in the bullpen over the past few weeks, possibly to help the Yankees as a substitute.
In addition to Sheffield, right-handed Domingo German, who had already made his MLB debut earlier this season, was also activated. Both are expected in the Bronx on Tuesday for the start of the series against the Boston Red Sox.
“This gives them the chance to pack their things, come here in peace and settle in,” said manager Aaron Boone on Sunday morning.
Sheffield and German were ordered high after the RaildRiders lost the final of the International League Championship Series against Durham Bulls 2:6.
Especially Sheffield is in the spotlight, because he had already convinced in jumping training and is regarded as a possible part of the future rotation of the Yankees. “We hope the boys will benefit from being here and part of the team,” Boone said. “Hopefully there will be a chance to influence in some way and help us for a few weeks.”
In 25 double- and triple-A-level missions, Sheffield scored 7-6 and 2.48 ERA with 123 strikeouts. Opponents beat him in 195.
