MLB: Scare in Boston: Star has to get up early

A moment of shock for the Boston Red Sox: Right Fielder Mookie Betts had to retire from the sixth inning due to injury in their narrow 4-3 victory over the New York Mets on Sunday. Afterwards, however, there was a slight all-clear.

Betts apparently injured himself on the side after throwing a ball to the home plate. Manager Alex Cora said after the game that the MVP candidate would be treated on Monday and could then play again on Tuesday when the Red Sox start a three-game series with the New York Yankees.

Cora said that Betts’ replacement was merely a precautionary measure. However, this would have nothing to do with the injury that cost Betts twelve games in June.

“I will be ready Tuesday,” emphasized Betts, who stated that he did not feel any pain when hitting, but only had slight problems when throwing.

The Red Sox are already qualified for the playoffs and their Magic Number to win the American League East is two. Any victory in the Bronx in the next three games would also seal the division victory for Boston.
