NFL: Officially! Wentz is back – and starts
The Philadelphia Eagles are getting their quarterback back: Carson Wentz has been given the green light by the doctors and is back in the team with immediate effect. Already in week 3 at home against the Colts he should start.
The team announced this via Twitter. Wentz, who had suffered a cruciate ligament rupture last December and missed the subsequent playoffs, confirmed the news on Social Media shortly afterwards.
Head Coach Doug Pederson praised Backup Nick Foles at his press conference, with whom the Eagles won the Super Bowl and then the opening game against Atlanta before going bankrupt against Tampa Bay on Sunday: “We owe Nick Foles our thanks. He’s a real pro.”
Wentz meanwhile was “ready. He is ready to take over again and look forward. We’ve waited an eternity for this day. I’m not gonna coach scared or paranoid right now.”
From Eagles’ point of view, in times of several early failures, this is the news that all of Philadelphia has been waiting for. Meanwhile, the time is still open for the comeback of number one receiver Alshon Jeffery, while Pederson confirmed at the press conference that Mike Wallace has suffered a fibular fracture. Left tackle Jason Peters had also injured himself against Tampa.
