MLB: Catcher writes history as pitcher

Francisco Arcia made a novelty on Thursday. He was a catcher, pitcher and hit a home run in the same game when his Los Angeles Angels crashed 3-21 against Oakland Athletics.

Since the beginning of the Modern Era in 1900, no other player in the history of the MLB has achieved this, as the Elias Sports Bureau has determined.

“I’m very happy about that, I think,” Arcia said after the game. Arcia was also the first non-pitcher since 1993 to pitch for the Angels. He did so on August 11 when he managed a shutout inning against the A’s.

This time, however, he was not so effective: in his two innings at the end of the game in Oakland he gave four hits and three runs on two home runs. Meanwhile, he beat his own Homer in the ninth inning with two outs.

“I just play hard no matter where they put me,” Arcia said about his bets for the Angels. Behind the record he shares the job with Jose Briceno since a few retirements this season.
