MLB: Get Giants first female GM?

The San Francisco Giants ask Kim Ng, an official of the MLB, for an interview for their General Manager position, which has been vacant for weeks. This would make her the first woman ever to work as a GM in the four major US leagues.

Ng is currently Senior Vice President of Baseball Operations at MLB, making her the most senior woman in MLB. The Giants are looking for a successor to Bobby Evans, who had to resign at the end of the season.

The Giants had previously asked the Brewers about General Manager David Stearns, whom they wanted to install as President of Baseball Operations. But according to a report by Ken Rosenthal, Milwaukee owner Mark Attanasio blocked the MLB Network.

Ng is known to view the game as a mixture of modern analytics and traditional baseball basics. Prior to joining MLB, she was vice president and assistant to GM Ned Colletti at the Los Angeles Dodgers. She has also had interviews for GM jobs with the Dodgers, Mariners, Padres and Angels.

Her responsibilities at MLB include the supervision of International Operations and talent development. Before joining the Dodgers, Ng also worked in the front offices of the Yankees and White Sox. She studied at the University of Chicago, where she played softball for four years.

After college, she was an intern with the White Sox, then worked in the American League office and then became the youngest MLB assistant manager ever at the Yankees.
