MLB: Despite bankruptcy: All-time record for New York

The New York Yankees lost to the Boston Red Sox on Thursday, and with it the fight for the American League East. But that didn’t stop them from setting two home run records.

In the second inning, First Baseman Luke Voit hit a home run. It was his tenth player this season, making him the twelfth player in New York squad to beat at least ten home runs this year. No team in the history of the MLB has ever managed this before.

“It’s pretty cool to be a part of it,” Voit said after the defeat against archrival Boston: “It’s kind of a positive thing about this game. No one else can say he’s done this.”

Voit made a total of eleven home runs this season, one for the St. Louis Cardinals, for whom he had played until his trade at the end of July.

In addition, the Bronx Bombers broke their own home run franchise record in one season. Currently – after a Grand Slam by Giancarlo Stanton later in the game – they have 247 home runs, two more than in 2012, when there were 245.

So, by the Seattle Mariners’ 1997 all-time record of 264, there are only 17 games left in ten.
