MLB: Cartilage damage! NY-Star before season’s end
The 2018 season could be prematurely over for Didi Gregorius. The New York Yankees shortstop found cartilage damage to the wrist.
Gregorius had won the run to beat Baltimore Orioles 3-2 in Extra Innings on Saturday, securing New York’s play-off entry. Gregorius got injured during the slide into the Home Plate.
An MRI had revealed the injury, as manager Aaron Boone announced on Sunday. In the 3-6 defeat against the O’s, Adeiny Hechavarria was surprisingly in the lineup as a shortstop. The latter could now also play the upcoming games for the Yankees.
Another alternative is Rookie Gleyber Torres, who is a trained shortstop and while Gregorius’ foot injury played there regularly a few weeks ago. In that case, Neil Walker would probably play second base.
Gregorius, who came up with 27 home runs this year and thus expanded his own franchise record for short stops, is to be re-examined in the coming days. Meanwhile, he’s already been injected with cortisone. However, a placement in the playoffs seems unlikely.
