NBA: Warriors want to “keep dancing”

Steve Kerr from the Golden State Warriors doesn’t believe that after this season the Dubs will go like the Chicago Bulls in 1998 and break apart. Rather, the coach is looking forward to the season. Kevin Durant, on the other hand, leaves his future open.

“The last dance? I hope not. I hope we’ll keep dancing,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr replied to the comparison that it could be like the Chicago Bulls in 1997/98. After that year the Bulls dynasty broke apart, Michael Jordan resigned, Scottie Pippen was traded to the Rockets and coach Phil Jackson joined the Lakers.

“The difference is that back then we all knew we were going to go – Phil too,” Kerr told ESPN’s Nick Fridell. “Our position is different now, even though we have some free agents.” Kerr preferred to talk about the fun the team would have, only then would they see further.

Kerr doesn’t feel any pressure. “We’ve won three of the last four titles. Our place in history is pretty secure.” Kevin Durant also spoke in his interviews about the fun the team would have.

But Durant is also one of the players who can become a Free Agent in 2019, after he signed only a short contract again in the summer. “I am very convinced of my skills and look at it year after year,” KD described his situation. “I could have just as easily signed a long-term contract.”

According to owner Joe Lacob, the Warriors had given KD every contract, but Durant and his advisor chose the short-term option.

Klay Thompson and Draymond Green have not yet signed a new deal (probably for financial reasons). They emphasized once again that they would like to continue playing for the Warriors after 2019.
