MLB: Atlanta star out until end of season
Dansby Swanson’s injury is worse than I thought. The Atlanta Braves announced on Wednesday that the shortstop had torn a ligament in its left hand.
This is the result of an MRI scan done in Atlanta on Wednesday. Swanson will be treated regularly until the end of the season and will then be re-examined before the start of the National League Division Series on 4 October. Whether he can play then is unclear.
The injury occurred in Swanson’s 7-3 win over the New York Mets on Tuesday and was replaced early.
“He swung the bat and something didn’t feel right,” said Brian Snitker on Wednesday. “That was a little alarming for me. He felt good and didn’t complain.”
While Swanson is down, Charlie Culberson will start as a shortstop. “It sounds like something that just needs rest,” Snitker added. “When you play with it, you have to bite your teeth. Hopefully it’s nothing more than that.”
