Cycling: Curious: Minister of Sport misses World Cycling Championships
Hundreds of thousands of spectators flock to the finals of the World Cycling Championships in Tyrol. However, anyone who will not be present at one of the sports highlights of the year – from a domestic point of view – is Austria’s Vice Chancellor and Sports Minister Heinz-Christian Strache (FPÖ). The reason: an apparently late invitation.
Straches’ deputy head of cabinet, Philipp Trattner, explained that this had only taken place on 6 September, i.e. too soon.
No more appointments could have been rescheduled, says Trattner. According to the report, the Vice-Chancellor had already shown himself surprised at the beginning of September that he had not received an invitation two weeks before the start of the World Cycling Championships.
At that time, the organizer said that the state of Tyrol would issue invitations for the gala evening, which will take place today, Saturday. This took place on September 6th – that day Strache was present at the opening of the World Climbing Championships in Innsbruck.
