Boxing: Car accident: Graciano Rocchigiani is dead

Graciano Rocchigiani is dead. According to media reports, the 54-year-old former boxing world champion was fatally injured in a car accident in Italy.

As the picture shows, “Rocky” was run over on Tuesday morning when he was on foot. He is said to have had a girlfriend in Italy and to have commuted regularly between Berlin and Italy.

Rocchigiani became IBF World Champion in Super Middleweight before 1988. He was the third German world champion after Max Schmeling and Eckhard Dagge and the youngest German boxing world champion ever.

Among other things he boxed twice against Henry Maske and twice against Dariusz Michalczewski during his career (48 fights, 41-6-1).

Rocchigiani was once married and left behind a daughter.
