MLB: Minnesota separates from success manager

Max Kepler gets a new manager! The Minnesota Twins announced on Tuesday that Hall-of-Famer Paul Molitor will no longer be in office next year. However, it should not be a complete separation.

Molitor managed the twins for four years and reached a record of 305-343 with last year’s high point, surprisingly leading the young team into the playoffs for the first time since 2010. This year, however, the Twins were 78-84 and finished the year 13 games behind the Cleveland Indians in the American League Central.

“This is not about this year’s balance sheet. It’s about what’s best for the development of our young team as it moves toward a team that can compete for a championship,” said Chief Baseball Officer Derek Falvey.

“I respect the decision,” Molitor said in a team statement. “I will always be grateful for the opportunity to serve as a manager for the last four years. I will now consider whether I will accept the organization’s generous offer to have a positive influence on the Twins in another role,” Molitor continues.

Molitor still has a two-year contract after his contract was extended for a further three years in October 2017. In 2017, Molitor was also named Manager of the Year in the American League.
