NBA: Player Father Insults Butler Racist – 76ers Apologize
Philadelphia 76ers in trouble again over social media. Bob Muscala, the father of Sixers player Mike Muscala, posted a racist commentary on the case of Jimmy Butler on Twitter. Sixers-GM Elton Brand now officially apologized for the derailment of the player’s father.
Brand called the posts of Muscala Sr. “inappropriate and offensive.” Mike Muscala’s father operated on Twitter under the name ‘MuskieBobber’ and commented on Jimmy Butler’s saga with the Minnesota Timberwolves as follows: “Butler’s behavior wasn’t a confrontation, it’s an egomaniacal African-American mental illness.”
The account has been deleted in the meantime. “It’s very simple. This is unacceptable and does not even begin to reflect the values in our franchise,” Brand is further quoted in a statement.
Player Muscala, who had just arrived from the Atlanta Hawks by trade last summer, also distanced himself from his father’s comments. “His comments were ill-considered and completely out of place. I can’t identify with that,” Muscala reaffirmed, who also praised the Sixers’ front office for how they dealt with the situation.
This is the second time in a few months that the Sixers have had social media problems. Most recently, former general manager Bryan Colangelo had to resign because his wife on Twitter Sixers probably had criticized Sixers players as well as employees via Burner accounts.
