NFL: For 100th season: NFL launches new logo
The NFL is celebrating its 100th season in the coming season – and this will also be shown on the jerseys: The league has introduced its special logo for the 2019 season.
According to the NFL, the logo will appear on the shirts of the players in the neck area and on the match balls. The league is planning to continue celebrations throughout the 2019 season, during which legends of the game as well as the fans will be honoured.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell stated in a statement: “For nearly 100 years, the NFL has been part of America, uniting communities and bringing fans together to support their favorite team and players. We have the best fans in the world and next year we will celebrate together with our fans what this incredible game means for all of us.”
The NFL was founded on 20 August 1920, first under the name “American Professional Football Association”, and was renamed NFL before the 1922 season. Only in 1966 did the NFL merge with the AFL (American Football League), resulting in the first Super Bowl. The merger was finally finalised in 1970.
Further celebrations and details of plans for next year’s anniversary season will be announced in the months leading up to the 2019 kick-off.
