NFL: Trade? Peterson confesses to Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals can breathe a sigh of relief in at least one case: Cornerback Patrick Peterson, who has been the subject of intense trade rumours since the beginning of the week, publicly declared his support for the cards on Wednesday.
In a statement on social media Peterson said: “How the season has gone so far has frustrated me incredibly. But my energy is 100 percent focused on being part of the solution and helping to achieve the turnaround. I’ve never been afraid of a challenge and I’m not going to start now. I have always given everything for this franchise, my teammates and the fans. I will do the same in the years to come. I’m an Arizona Cardinal, and my focus is on the game ahead.”
On Monday, intense trade rumours had suddenly emerged that Peterson, according to several sources, had urgently asked for a trade until the deadline next Tuesday. As Cards-Beat writer Darren Urban reports, the All-Pro Cornerback actually asked for a trade, Peterson added later on Wednesday: “Everyone sees the balance. I’m sorry I distracted you from the upcoming game. But that was the situation.”
Peterson then met with Head Coach Steve Wilks and Team President Michael Bidwill at the beginning of the week, who gave him assurances regarding the further development of a team that is undergoing radical change this year. The 28-year-old said, “My teammates are ready to check it out, just like coach Wilks. We’re just thinking about winning a damn game because we really need it.”
Arizona will host the San Francisco 49ers next Sunday, who also have only one win after seven games.
