NBA: 52 points and three-way record! Klay Thompson explodes
Klay Thompson has set a new NBA record for his Golden State Warriors at the Chicago Bulls. The Shooting Guard turned the champion’s loose 149:124 victory (BOXSCORE) into a full 14 threesome for 52 points, thus eliminating Stephen Curry’s old record from the history books.
4:53 minutes into the third quarter, Klay Thompson sunk his 14th triumvirate in the game and set a new record for most of the converted distance shots in one game. A little later the Shooting Guard was allowed to say goodbye in the evening.
26:33 minutes, 52 points (18/29 FG, 14/24 Dreier) were recorded in the box score for the second Splash Brother – and that after Thompson was in a huge slump in the first seven games.
Only five of his 36 attempts had the Shooting Guard sunk from a distance before the game, but somehow everyone had the feeling that Thompson would explode sooner or later – and in Chicago he did.
In the first four minutes he netted his first three triples, after a quarter Klay stood at six converted triples and at the break it was even ten, which meant the setting of the record by Chandler Parsons. But it was not only Thompson with his 36 points (12/16 FG, 10/14 threesome) who caused damage in the first half. The Warriors played 92 points before the break, which was only once before (Phoenix vs. Denver, 107 points). By the way, the Bulls scored 50 points.
A record, however, was set by the 17 converted triads (27 attempts) of the Warriors after the first 24 minutes. In addition to Thompson, the Chicago-born Alfonzo McKinnie (19) stood out, sinking his first four threes.
Even after the change Thompson could not be stopped, not even by Damian Jones, who collided with the shooter and gave him a small cut on the forehead. Thompson subsequently wore a yellow headband with which, after five minutes in the third quarter, he set the NBA record for three of his colleague Stephen Curry (13) and shortly afterwards broke it.
The Warriors were leading with over 40 points at the time, which is why Warriors coach Steve Kerr put his stars on the bench. Instead, the reservists were allowed to let off steam a little and the Bulls were able to limit the damage a little.
The Thompson show brought the curry series to an end. After seven games in a row with at least five three players there were only two this time, even if the head chef still came to 23 points (7/0 FG). Kevin Durant, on the other hand, was content with 14 points and a plus/minus value of +45!
Oh yes the Bulls: Topscorer was Zach Lavine (21) together with Antonio Blakeney, who used Garbage Time well, Rookie Wendell Carter Jr. scored 18 points and 7 rebounds.
