NFL: Eagles get WR Golden Tate from Detroit

The Detroit Lions have traded Wide Receiver Golden Tate to the Philadelphia Eagles. The player announced his change to Super Bowl Champion himself.

Lions will receive a third-round pick in the upcoming NFL draft from the Eagles in exchange.

“It was a great time, Detroit! I’ll always love you. Philly, Philly, let’s go,” wrote the videout on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon, announcing his farewell from Motor City after four and a half years.

Before the 2014 season, the 30-year-old had signed a five-year contract in Detroit as a free agent. According to NFL Network Insider, Lions did not expect a contract extension in the off-season and decided to trade. “We wish Golden and his family all the best for the next step in his career,” said General Manager Bog Quinn.

Tate, who mainly works as a slot receiver, will probably share the time in the Eagles slot with Nelson Agholor. The defending champions are currently behind Washington Redskins (5-3) with a balanced 4-4 record in the NFC.

Tate should be able to celebrate his first appearance in Week 10 against the Dallas Cowboys (3-4). Next weekend the Eagles have their Bye Week.

Should Tate leave the team after the season, Philly should receive a compensatory third or fourth lap pick in 2020, says NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah.
