MLB: Miami: Star rules out overtime
J.T. Realmuto is apparently preparing to say goodbye to the Miami Marlins. His agent now let it be known that the future of the catcher does not lie in the south of Florida.
“J.T. has informed the Marlins’ owners and front office that he will not sign a contract extension in Miami,” Agent Jeff Berry told MLB Network Radio on Tuesday. He also added: “If you have one of the most valuable trade assets in the league, it makes sense to use it. Period.”
Berry even went so far as to say that Realmuto “will definitely be wearing a different uniform at the start of Spring Training”.
Realmuto beat .277 in the past season with 21 home runs and 74 RBI and earned 2.9 million dollars. He will be under team control for another two years and will be admitted to arbitration in 2019 and 2020. In 2021, he’ll be Free Agent.
ESPN reports that Realmuto had already asked for a trade a year ago. However, the request was not complied with after some other well-known players had already been surrendered.
