NFL: Eagles: Is McCoy coming back now?

The Philadelphia Eagles are apparently on the lookout for running back help after Jay Ajayi’s injury-related end: According to reports there is a return of LeSean McCoy in the room.

As NFL network insider Ian Rapoport reports, the Eagles are interested in a retrieval action by McCoy. WIVB in Buffalo also reports that Philly may have even contacted the Bills about a trade. Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network also reported that the Eagles had previously shown loose interest in returning to McCoys.

McCoy was drafted by the Eagles in 2009 and played in Philadelphia until 2014, where he played four 1,000 Rushing-Yards seasons. In 2015, he moved to the Bills, where he has averaged 4.5 yards per run over the past three years. At the Eagles he would immediately slip back into the starter role – Philly’s backfield is a big question mark after the injury of Jay Ajayi.

At the moment Wendell Smallwood would probably take over the starter role with a rotation: Corey Clement and Darren Sproles should have a bigger share at least in the passing downs.

The Eagles have also been associated with a possible trade for Le’Veon Bell, Philadelphia restructured the contract with Defensive Tackle Fletcher Cox at the beginning of the week and has the necessary Cap Space. McCoy is in his penultimate contract year, his cap hit for this season is 8.95 million dollars. 9.05 million would be due in 2019 for the 31-year-old.
