MLB: Houston lets old master go
The Houston Astros have decided against the club option of Brian McCann. This will make the Catcher Free Agent, after he had only moved to Texas by trade in 2017.
The option would have earned McCann $15 million after his current five-year contract of $85 million signed with the New York Yankees in 2014 expired.
The option did not include a buyout, but would have been guaranteed if McCann had accumulated at least 1000 Plate Appearances over the 2017 and 2018 seasons and had been part of the active squad by the end of the 2018 season.
McCann made only 62 starts in 2018 due to a knee operation and only 615 plate appearances in his two years in Houston.
In the 2018 season McCann beat only .212 with seven home runs and 23 RBI. Still in 2017, he helped the Houston Astros win the World Series for the first time ever.
