Boxing: Mayweather cancels fight against Kickboxer
Floyd Mayweather has cancelled the fight against the Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa and has denied a return from his retirement. According to his own statement, he had become a victim of misleading information.
“I never agreed to an official fight with Tenshin Nasukawa. I didn’t even hear about him until my trip to Japan,” the 41-year-old American wrote in a statement on Instagram.
According to this, Mayweather would only have been asked for a 9-minute exhibition match over 3 rounds, which would have been set “for a small group of rich people at a very high price”. He and his team were victims of misleading information at the press conference in Tokyo.
There Mayweather had stirred up the expectations of the fans two days before. “I want to give people what they want – blood, sweat and tears,” he said about the fight scheduled for December 31.
In his statement Mayweather apologized to fans and the media for the misunderstanding and made it clear: “I am a retired boxer who earns a lot of money worldwide for performances, engagements and occasionally exhibition matches”.
