NBA: LeVert seriously injured – other players shed tears
Caris LeVert suffered a serious injury to his right leg in the Brooklyn Nets’ match against Minnesota Timberwolves. The Shooting Guard hit the ground unhappily at the end of the first half after colliding with Jeff Teague in the air.
“He’s the heart and soul of our team,” said Nets coach Kenny Atkinson. He also added, “It’s a very hard setback for the Nets.” LeVert had to be carried off the pitch and taken to the nearest hospital. Already at first sight one could notice that this injury is bad.
The arena fell silent and both his teammates and the Timberwolves players gathered in circles and began praying for the 24-year-old. “You really can’t find words there,” Joe Harris said after the game. “We didn’t talk to each other, not even when we went into the halftime break. There was nothing to say. Some guys were crying. It was really awful to look at.”
Other players from all over the league also expressed their condolences for LeVert on Twitter and wished him a quick recovery. Even NBA legend Bill Russell commented on the Nets Guard’s serious injury: “Our prayers are with him, we wish him a quick regeneration!
LeVert already had problems with various injuries in Michigan College. Both his junior and senior year he struggled with retirements. The 24-year-old also missed part of his rookie season in the NBA due to a foot injury.
This season, LeVert had taken a leading position in the Nets and is now the face of their rebuilds. Before the match against the Timberwolves, he played an average of 19 points, 3.7 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game.
