NBA: Mavs owner believes Nowitzki season will continue

Dirk Nowitzki continues to work towards his first season assignment for the Dallas Mavericks. Owner Mark Cuban thinks despite the current health problems that it will not be the last season of the Big Blonde.

“I certainly don’t see this as his last year,” explained Mark Cuban in an interview with Dallas Morning News when asked when Dirk Nowitzki will end his career. “Last season, he played 77 games and could have played more.”

However, the 40-year-old has not yet been used in this season, due to the after-effects of an ankle surgery. “His joints were not used to being able to move so well because his mobility was so limited,” said the Mavs-Owner, explaining Nowitzki’s ongoing problems.

Cuban, on the other hand, has no doubt that the Big can continue to keep up in the league, because Nowitzki will continue to meet his threesome. In addition, less and less defense is being played in the NBA anyway. “I even think he’s going to be on for another season, but that’s just a feeling from me,” Cuban continues.

At least this season, the Mavs continue to plan with their franchise legend, but for the first time in a new role as a backup center. “He’ll probably play on the five and throw a lot of threes. Even at 80, he’ll still meet his jumpers.”

But it is still unclear when the German will be back on the field, even though Nowitzki was optimistic as guest commentator at FOX Sports Southwest this weekend. “The last ten days have been very encouraging,” the Dirkster explained during the game against the Thunder, which Dallas won somewhat surprisingly (111:96).
