NFL: Horror injury with Alex Smith shocks the NFL

The Washington Redskins game against the Houston Texans was a shocking scene, with the entire NFL holding its breath. Redskins quarterback Alex Smith suffered a terrible ankle injury from a sack, which was subsequently confirmed as a fibula fracture.

Smith was torn to the ground by J.J. Watt and Kareem Jackson in the third quarter of the game with a sack. The unnatural position of Smith’s foot immediately showed that it was a serious injury.

Players from both teams got on their knees before Smith was taken away with a kart. From here, Redskin’s backup quarterback took over Colt McCoy.

The injury was reminiscent of the injury suffered by former Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann, who broke his leg with a sack of Lawrence Taylor. Theismann was 35 years old at the time and never played in the NFL again.

Washington’s head coach Jay Gruden confirmed a broken fibula at Smith in the press conference after the match. The 34-year-old is operated during the week.

The Redskins lost the game against Houston and are now on a record of 6 wins and 4 losses this season. Washington are still the NFC East leaders, but with only one game left to the Dallas Cowboys, this injury is a severe setback that could blow the play-off dreams.
