NBA: Want to get rid of the Grizzlies Parsons?

The Memphis Grizzlies are obviously thinking hard about separating from Chandler Parsons at the end of the current season. The forward had signed a lucrative contract in Memphis in the summer of 2016, but was never able to live up to expectations due to numerous injuries.

According to Chris Herrington of The Daily Memphian, the Grizzlies plan to apply the Stretch Commission in the summer of 2019, which could split Parson’s last year salary ($25.2 million in 2019/20) over three years at $8.4 million each.

This means that Memphis could have enough Cap Space available next summer to equip a player with a maximum contract. However, this also depends on other factors, such as whether Marc Gasol pulls his player option (1 year/25.6 million dollars) for 2019/20.

Parsons moved from Dallas Mavericks to Memphis as a Free Agent in 2016. There he signed a four-year contract for $94 million. However, numerous injuries repeatedly put a spanner in the works of the 30-year-old.

In the last two years, the Small Forward has played just 70 games. He also missed twelve games in the current season due to knee and back problems. In the Grizzlies’ jersey, Parsons has been on average 7 points and 2.4 rebounds since 2016/17.
