NFL: Missed Alex Smith season start 2019?
Alex Smith will probably miss the start of the season for the coming season. This is what NFL network insider Ian Rapoport reports about the quarterback of the Washington Redskins, who has to struggle with an infection after an operation.
“At the moment nobody can say for sure if he will play football again,” said Rapoport at Good Morning Football. “For Washington Redskins, however, the reality is that he won’t be ready to start the 2019 season.”
Smith injured himself badly against the Houston Texans on 18 November and broke his shin and fibula. After the operation, it became known that the wound had already been infected.
“Accordingly, they know that they will have to find a new quarterback at least for the start of next season,” Rapoport continued. “It’s just not clear yet whether they’ll do this via Free Agency or in draft.”
For the Redskins, the quarterback situation has turned into a disaster since the incident. Backup-Playcaller Colt McCoy broke his leg the week before against the Philadelphia Eagles and his backup, Mark Sanchez, was given directly back to Josh Johnson at his first start at 0:40 against the New York Giants.
