Shiffrin return in World Cup open

Mikaela Shiffrin is also missing at the upcoming Ski World Cups and threatens to lose the overall World Cup. Her return to the World Cup circus remains open.

The timing of Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin’s return to the Alpine Ski World Cup is “still open”. This was announced by the US Ski Federation on Wednesday. The 24-year-old has not competed in any races since the sudden death of her father at the beginning of February and has therefore lost her lead in the overall World Cup.

The best female ski racer of her generation and three-time winner of the big crystal ball will thus also be missing at the World Cup this weekend in La Thuile, Italy, where a Super-G and a combination will be on the agenda. Afterwards, the Ski Circus will be making a guest appearance before the season finale in Cortina d’Ampezzo/Italy in mid-March in Ofterschwang and in Are, Sweden.

Shiffrin currently lies 73 points behind the new leader Federica Brignone in second place in the overall World Cup. “I want her to come back as soon as possible so that she can do what she loves the most,” the Italian said recently.
