Schröder leaves bubble – OKC loses
Dennis Schröder leaves the bubble of the NBA and will miss at least one game with Oklahoma. But the national player has a good reason for this.
Without international Dennis Schröder the Oklahoma City Thunder suffered a narrow defeat in the NBA.
OKC lost to the Denver Nuggets 113-121 after overtime. Michael Porter Jr. achieved his career high of 37 points for the Nuggets. (Table of the NBA)
The Thunder thus occupies sixth place in the West, the Nuggets are third.
Previously it had been announced that Schröder would not participate in the game. According to ESPN information, the 27-year-old is said to have left on Monday morning (local time) for family reasons.
Second child for Schröder family
Schröder and his wife Ellen are expecting their second child. Schröder had said on 15 July that the birth date would be in about three or four weeks – under certain circumstances, Schröder may be missing more than two weeks from his team.
“At least he will miss this game,” Oklahoma coach Billy Donovan ESPN had before the game against the Denver Nuggets.
Schröder had already planned in advance to leave the quarantine bubble of the NBA at Disney World.
“This is hard for me. I love my teammates, I love basketball, but family always comes first,” said the Braunschweig-born player. “I sacrifice a lot for my team, but we have to agree somehow that I can see my family when the baby comes. We’ll manage that.”
Schröder’s national team colleagues Isaac Bonga and Moritz Wagner are still off track with the Washington Wizards.
The two youngsters lost 100:111 against the Indiana Pacers with the capital club and after the restart they lost their third game in the third game. The play-off chances are now further reduced.
Starter Bonga contributed eight points and five rebounds to the bankruptcy, Wagner scored five points and five rebounds.
