Coach Andrea Trinchieri reacted with harsh criticism to the next bankruptcy of Master Brose Bamberg.
“We were embarrassed as a team. No energy, no strength, nothing,”said the Italian after 68:85 (38:49) at Science City Jena in the Basketball Bundesliga.
The Franconians claimed their fourth consecutive defeat in the BBL and Bamberg was left empty-handed for the sixth time in a row. With a record of 22:20 points, the series champion is only tenth in the standings, and the play-offs are more at risk than ever before. The team was missing 17 years ago in the championship round (2000/01).
“Congratulations to Jena on a great game and an absolutely deserved victory. They destroyed us,”Trinchieri said angrily.”It was a pitch black evening for us. Of course, it’s been a difficult season so far, but digesting a defeat like today is hard.”
Trinchieri returned to the sidelines last weekend after a shoulder operation and lost home to Bayern Munich (63:71). Now the next neck blow followed for outsider Jena.
“We have to play energetically, defend hard and really play with focus and energy. This is currently our priority,”said Maodo Lo at Telekom Sport. The situation is serious:”We really have to focus on the Bundesliga for the rest of the season, make sure we get the play-offs.”
Trinchieri saw nothing positive in Jena:”Our team is overwhelmed with many situations. But if you have two legs, two arms and a heart, you should also use it,”said the 49-year-old:”My players are currently unable to do the simplest basics in basketball.” A bankruptcy declaration.
Now there is a break. It will not continue until next Friday in the EuroLeague against Red Star Belgrade. The next Bundesliga match will again be played away from home, on 4. March at the Giessen 46ers. Any further dropouts could be costly.
