After the Olympic break, the German Ice Hockey League will go into its final spurt on Wednesday evening (19.30 hrs in the LIVETICKER). Many of the silver medal winners are on the ice again three days after the final.
Only 48 hours after their arrival from Asia, the Olympic heroes will fight on the 50th anniversary of their arrival. On the first day of the match, the DEL again took a good position in the table. Three matchdays before the end of the main round, the starting situation couldn’t be more exciting: between fourth and twelveth place, the showdown for the highly sought-after final places is imminent.
All these teams still have the chance to reach the play-offs directly. The six best teams of the league reach the play-offs directly, the four teams behind them play two more players in the pre-play-offs.
At the top of the table in the capital city is the top game of this matchday. Although both Red Bull Munich and the Eisbären Berlin have already secured their play-off places, the match between the first and third in the table is bound to be tough.
The decisive factor in this game could be the extent to which the seven Munich and three Berlin Olympic winners were able to recover from their trip to South Korea.
In a total of seven games, Marco Sturm’s team fought with other ice hockey nations and barely missed the gold medal. The league is now also hoping for an upswing from the enthusiastic appearance of the German team.
“We want to use the final phase of the main round and of course the playoffs to bring the current boom into the DEL arenas,”said DEL Managing Director Gernot Tripcke. The reception in the arenas is likely to be stormy.
But also outside the stadium, those interested can let themselves be inspired by the DEL. As an exception, Telekom Sport broadcasts all the games of the 50th Anniversary of the Olympic Games. Free of charge on matchdays (from 7.30 pm in the LIVETICKER).
In addition, the free-TV channel Sport1 shows the encounter between the Augsburg Panthers and the Fischtown Penguins.
