Handball: HBL boss Bohmann counters Hoeneß statements

Frank Bohmann, Managing Director of HBL, reacted with indignation to the statements of Uli Hoeneß and sharply countered:”Handball may not be a world sport. But also in many European countries, handball is much more important, more popular and more important than basketball,”said Bohmann to Sport Bild.

In an interview with the newspaper SZ, Bavaria’s president Hoeneß had stated that, unlike basketball, he was not interested in handball as a sport for his club (“Handball plays a role in almost no country except Germany”). It is not right that Uli Hoeneß should discredit our good work with these statements. You don’t do that”, said the HBL boss.

But that’s not all:”The media coverage of FC Bayern Munich’s basketball team is second to none in the table,”says Bohmann:”FC Bayern is claiming to be one of the world’s top 5 or top 10 players in football. In basketball, they don’t even begin to live up to this claim, FC Bayern has the same significance as Maribor in football.”

Bohmann believes that it would be worthwhile for the Munich team to get involved in handball:”With the money that Bavaria has invested in their basketball department, they could have already won the Champions League in handball.
