Ice hockey: Court of Arbitration confirmed: No rules for promotion and relegation in the DEL

There will be no reintroduction of the sporty ascent and descent in German ice hockey for the 2018/2019 season.

The Court of Arbitration appointed by the DEL and the DEL2 confirmed the DEL’s view that the criteria agreed between the two leagues for playing a sporting ascender and descender have not been met by all second-league teams since the 2018/19 season.

The DEL2 clubs will be opened on 22. The Commission will discuss its further action at a meeting on 1 January. If the second-league teams were to submit documents in accordance with the contract, a sporting promotion and relegation between the leagues would be played for the first time since 2006 in the 2019/2020 season.

In addition to Bietigheim, the Kassel Huskies, the Löwen Frankfurt, the Dresden Eislöwen, SC Riessersee and the Starbulls Rosenheim submitted documents. Among other things, the clubs had to provide proof of a bank guarantee in the amount of 816,000 euros and a proper venue with a minimum capacity of 4000 spectators.
