NFL: SNG Preview: Next victim for the Raiders-Offense?

The Sunday Night Game in Week 3 comes from the capital: The Washington Redskins receive the hot Oakland Raiders and are defensively facing a big challenge.Oakland’s offense is already running brilliantly on several cylinders – does this continue in the third game of the season? The game will be shown live on DAZN during the night from Sunday to Monday (2.30 a. m.)!

The predictions before the season were relatively clear: The Oakland Raiders might still be defensively facing some problems – but the raiders should be able to keep up with every team in possible shootouts. And after two weeks of strikingly defensive play in many games, it’s safe to say that the Raiders’ open season is already over the hottest part of the season.

The sample size is of course still small, so all statistical values should be taken with caution. However, the first few numbers are still good: Oakland’s 8.2 yards per pass represents fifth place, only the Broncos and the Lions (6 each) have achieved more passing touchdowns than Carr and Co. so far (5).In addition, the Raiders are in second place with 5.2 yards per run.

Among other things, the combination of Lynch and the offensive line stands out: The raiders have added more outside-zone runs to their repertoire, while Lynch shines behind them with his Tackles runs through the best Seattle days.

According to Pro Football Focus, he was only tackled at 50 percent of his carries on first contact, the best value of all running backs in 2017 and also over the last few years at this point in the season considered a top score. In the first game against Tennessee, for example, he managed to win at least one additional yard after his first contact with the opponent in 88 percent of his runs.

And the good combinations can also be found in the hitherto extremely productive Passing Game.Carr benefits from a shiny pass protection – at the same time, no quarterback threw the ball faster than Carr on average over the first two weeks (average 1.97 seconds after the snap).

Carr’s game is characterized by precision. With 2.77 touchdown passes per interception, it has ranked sixth place since its NFL debut in 2014, while its 7.43 air yards per pass mean 27th place.Place.Carr only takes risks if necessary, but has shown in the past season in particular that he is prepared to do so.

And then there’s the Receiving Corps. With Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree, the Raiders have one of the best wide receiver duo in the NFL and two very good route runners.Crabtree – while Amari Cooper showed his drop problems in the first game – did not catch a pass after two games (12/13,163 YDS, 3 TD).Even Cordarrelle Patterson, who was hired in the off-season for the return game, is involved in the off-season, although primarily in the run game (4 ATT, 62 YDS, TD).It can be a kind of X-factor for the offense.

“We have a lot of talent, the coaches and managers have done a great job,”Carr summed it up during the week,”but of course that doesn’t mean anything if we don’t transfer it to the field. That’s the coolest part for me: The guys are attentive in the meetings and ready to learn things. When we’re on the court, we’ll play at full speed.”

The qualities in Oakland’s offense and especially those of Carr himself are naturally not hidden from the Redskins,”he is great. He’s a great player, has a great grip on the offense. He gives his receivers balls that they can catch,”Skins coach Jay Gruden Carr praised in advance:” I am impressed by his calmness in my pocket and how he controls the game.

While there is still a lot of sand in the gear when it comes to their own offense at least in the passing match, the run game looked much better when they beat the Rams on Sunday: The offensive line dominated the Rams front, with 229 rushing yards at the end.The skins provided the probably most impressive statistic of the whole day: 179 of these 229 rushing yards came into contact with their opponents.

Oakland’s biggest weakness is likely to be the run defense and especially the linebackers (similar to the Rams), after two games the raiders stand at 4.8 yards per opponent’s run.Safety Karl Joseph has played a good season so far, just like Rookie Eddie Vanderdoes in the D-Line.Apart from Vanderdoes and of course Khalil Mack, the raiders lack real pillars in the front. All the more impressive was the performance against the Titans in Week 1, but from a perspective it was probably more of a runaway upwards than the norm.

Dictating the game over the run and keeping Oakland’s otherwise difficult to control offense on the sidelines is likely to be the preferred course of action for Washington on Sunday evening.
