MLB: Cabrera suffers double slipped disc

Miguel Cabrera has suffered a double slipped disc. That’s what a Sunday investigation at the Detroit Tigers’ First Baseman revealed. It is not yet clear whether his season will be over.

Cabrera had left the 4-10 defeat against the Minnesota Twins on Saturday with back problems.According to the team, an MRI revealed damage between two pairs of intervertebral discs.

According to manager Brad Ausmus, whose contract expires at the end of the season and is not renewed, the 34-year-old is unlikely to need surgery and will receive anti-inflammatory injections instead,”It has probably developed slowly over a number of years,”said Ausmus.

This season Cabrera. 249 beats with 16 home runs and 60 RBI.We certainly don’t rule out that Cabrera can play again,”added Ausmus, adding:” If he plays, it would probably be a designated hitter.

Generally speaking, however, Ausmus assumes that Cabrera will no longer be a root first baseman in the future and will instead play the DH role on a more regular basis:”I don’t just think it would do him good, I think it will probably do so.
