NFL: Washington dominates disappointing raiders

The Oakland Raiders are no longer unbeaten! In the Week 3 Sunday Night Game Oakland loses 27:10 at the Washington Redskins – also because the raiders deviate from established formulas. The Redskins on the other hand appear to be icy cold at first and consequently exploit Oakland’s unfamiliar mistakes consistently, their own potentially grave failures did not matter against a harmless Raiders-Offense in the end.

But the signs for Washington didn’t seem to be good at first: Shortly before the start of the game it was clear that Mason Foster, Jordan Reed and Rob Kelley couldn’t play either. But you didn’t even notice it on the course.

Rather, it was the raiders who appeared completely indisposed.Derek Carr (19/31,118 YDS, TD, 2 INT) threw two uncharacteristic interceptions, Kirk Cousins (25/30,365 YDS, 3 TD) punished both picks with touchdown drives; first on Thompson, then on Vernon Davis.

But above all it was surprising how the Redskins dominated defensively: 223 yards of the hosts were facing 47 for Oakland at halftime, 11:2 first downs. And Washington continued to take the offensively the same approach: Oakland found no answers to Thompson, and Josh Doctson expanded the lead with a spectacular touchdown.

Nevertheless, it was a bit of a thrill because Washington kept the guests in the game: a missed field goal and shortly afterwards a dropped punt from Crowder, which ended two plays later via Jared Cook in the final zone.Even after that, Oakland’s offensive engine stuttered a lot – but Samaje Perine helped with a fumble on her own 10-yard line. The Raiders did not bring this gift into the final zone, however, it was symbolic of a disappointing performance of the offense and so Washington brought his leadership safely over time.

Washington Redskins (2-1) – Oakland Raiders (2-1)27:10 (7:0,7:0,7:7,6:3) BOXSCORE

Oakland’s offensive line is regarded as one of the best lines in the NFL – quite a few of them even see it ahead of the Cowboys line – and for the first two weeks this classification was justified, but on Sunday evening the Redskins turned the tables: The hosts dominated the line of scrimmage defensively, which – in addition to a strange game plan of the guests – led to Oakland becoming defensive. In addition, Carr was unfamiliarly often under pressure, partly because he had to hold the ball longer than before, but partly also because the protection quickly collapsed.Washington’s defense overall had an outstanding game.

Oakland set the course early on for a very tough away game – Carr’s two quick interceptions served as a point man.In return, both ended up in Redskins touchdown drives, which enabled Washington to do two things: The defense had more freedom in the pass rush and the offense relied more on possession of the ball and the run game.Nevertheless, it is important to note that there was hardly any real sticking point in this sense, Washington’s defense was too dominant and the offense of the raiders was too weak.

Of course, Cousins’ statistics end up reading great and he didn’t make many mistakes. However, Doctson’s touchdown should have been an interception – and many of Cousins’ yards were created by a man: Chris Thompson was an absolute X-factor player.Washington attacked the raiders’ vulnerable linebackers with him several times in coverage, and he was also a central weapon in the Screen Game and turned short passes into long space gains.Including the critical 3rd&19 when Oakland just came back into the game.In the end he stood at 38 rushing yards and 150 receiving yards.

The two early interceptions were completely uncharacteristic for the otherwise so precise Carr: One time he read the coverage obviously wrongly, at the second pick he simply threw it into the arms of the defender, who only had to hold the ball in the trap.Carr seemed insecure all evening long, evident bad behaviour in the pocket and against pressure and his passports were inaccurate.Obvious communication problems with the own line were obvious, Carr was surprised several times by an unplanned or too early snap.
