Since June 2011, Melvin has been responsible for the athletics’ sporting fortunes, during which time the 55-year-old has a record of 535 victories and 532 defeats. From 2012 to 2014, the team had reached the postseason three times in a row, and in 2012 he was named Manager of the Year.

His contract would have expired after the 2018 season. The contract was prematurely extended by one year, which means that Melvin, like General Manager David Forst and Athletics light figure Billy Beane, will be part of the team until 2019.

“We’ve been together as a group for quite a while now, so it feels really good,”said Melvin,”whether it’s an extension for a year, a day or ten years, that doesn’t change how I do my job,” Melvin comes from the area, so he’s allowed to do his job “at home”.

The A’s will definitely end the season with a negative result, for the third time in a row.Bob deserves this extra time,”said Beane,” He did a great job in this transitional period and you can’t think of a better man for the job.
