Olympic Games 2026: DOSB President Hörmann disappointed after Tirol outing

DOSB President Alfons Hörmann has reacted disappointedly to the Tyrolean bid for the Olympic Winter Games 2026:”It is a pity that it has not been possible to convince the citizens of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in this well-proven winter sports region in the neighbouring Tyrol,”said Hörmann.

“This shows how difficult it is to secure the necessary democratic majorities for such projects.”

On Sunday, the inhabitants of the Austrian state of Tyrol voted in a referendum against the city’s bid, which had already been hosted in 1964 and 1976.For the third time since 1993 and 1997, a public vote in the Olympic Games in Innsbruck was held.

53.35 percent of the 536,817 eligible voters voted against an Olympic bid, while 58.43 percent of the 536,817 were voting.So the Winter Games will not return to Germany in eight years’ time.

Inzell was intended to host the speed skating competitions, and ice hockey matches could also have taken place in Garmisch.
