Jeff Conine, who was named “Mr. Marlin” will leave the Miami Marlins. According to their own information, the organisation’s original rock was not able to agree on a new role and an appropriate salary with the new team leadership around Derek Jeter.
“You can say I’m disappointed I won’t have a role in this organization anymore,” Conine told the Miami Herald on Thursday.
Conine was most recently Special Assistant to team president David Samson. According to media reports, Jeter, the team’s new CEO, not only Conine, but also the hall-of-famer Andre Dawson and Tony Perez, as well as Jack McKeon, manager of the 2003 World Series winner, wanted to get rid of them. However, Jeter has refrained from this most recently.
“I spent seven and a half years as a player here and the last nine as someone who worked in this organization. I’ve always thought of myself as a marlin. I am a member of this society. I want to see them win again. I want to see them in the World Series and the playoffs again,”Conine continued.
Conine played 17 years for six teams in the MLB and beat over that time. 285 with a. 789 OPS. He was twice an all-star and a member of the 2003 team that defeated the New York Yankees in the World Series.
In his previous role, he advised players on the field and also participated in trade and free agent discussions.
