NBA: No more Summer League in Orlando

In future, Orlando Magic will refrain from playing out the sum of the league. The team takes part in the tournament in Las Vegas.

The Magic have been organizing “their” Summer League since 2002. Most recently, five teams took part, including the Magic. But that is now over.

“The trend is for the teams to play in Vegas,”announced Jeff Weltman to Orlando Sentinel. That’s what the Magic will do. In Las Vegas, there are usually over 20 NBA teams at the start.

The special thing about Orlando was the unusual scenery: The games took place in a training hall in front of a few hundred spectators. In Vegas, on the other hand, they play in front of a large backdrop.

“This will prepare you better for the NBA,”said Weltman,”if you play in front of up to 20,000 spectators and almost every team is there. Then the young players get their first taste of the real NBA.”
