MLB: Ex-Tigers-Manager moves to Anaheim

The Los Angeles Angels have engaged Brad Ausmus as special assistant to General Manager Billy Eppler. Ausmus previously worked as manager of the Detroit Tigers.

Ausmus’ main tasks will be scouting and player evaluation, as the Orange County Register reports. The former catcher worked for the Tigers from 2014 to 2017. In September, the team finally announced that they would not renew the 48-year-old’s contract.

The Angels also announced on Tuesday that Josh Paul will be the new Bench Coach of Manager Mike Scioscia. Paul has been the Yankees’ Catching Coordinator for the past three seasons. Prior to that, he was active as scout and minor league manager in the Yankee organisation, from where Eppler already knew him.

As a player, Paul was active with the Angels from 2004 to 2005 and played a total of 321 games in the MLB from 1999 to 2007. He succeeds Dino Ebel, who will be back as third base coach for the Angels. He was a benchmark coach for four years.

Meanwhile, Ebel is taking over for Ron Roenicke, who will now be working for Red Sox as the benchmark coach for manager Alex Cora.
