NBA: Porzingis:”I don’t believe in Tanking”
The New York Knicks play a better season than many expected and are currently on a balanced track. As General Manager Scott Perry and Kristaps Porzingis also confirmed once again, Tanking does not play a role in the Big Apple.
“I don’t think Tanking is healthy for culture,”Perry told the New York Post,”You’d try to glorify defeats. It’s hard to get that attitude back.”
After the trade from Carmelo Anthony to the Oklahoma City Thunder many experts had speculated that the Knicks would be found at the end of the Eastern Conference. At the moment, however, coach Jeff Hornacek’s team is on the eighth and last play-off place with a record of 13-13.
That the team is trying to win is also a good sign for the new franchise player, Kristaps Porzingis, who could sign his rookie extension in 2018. The Latvian is also convinced that the playoffs are possible this year and agreed with the GM on the subject of Tanking.
“I don’t believe in Tanking”, Porzingis explained,”The goal should be the playoffs in every season. It’s the only way to get better. The playoffs are an experience that can’t be exchanged for anything. The sooner you reach them, the better prepared you are for the future,” Porzingis was not yet in the postseason in his two years in New York.
