NBA: Thompson before returning to Cavs in bank role
Tristan Thompson of the Cleveland Cavaliers has cured his calf injury and is about to make a comeback for the Cavs. The center and long-time starter will most likely not start, but will come from the bank.
That’s what Cavs coach Ty Lue hinted at before the game against the Atlanta Hawks:”We’re currently playing good basketball and have found our rhythm. Tristan understands that,”said Lue,”so we’re not going to make any fundamental changes,” so without Thompson the Cavs won 13 of their 16 games.
Thompson only came from the bank at the beginning of the season, but was ordered back to the Starting Five by Lue because the Cavaliers’ defence was weak at the beginning of the season and Kevin Love had problems in the center position. In the meantime the former Timberwolves star cuts a much better figure.
Thompson was supposed to be missing only one month, but the injured calf needed six weeks to heal completely,”Who says there was a schedule?”so asked Thompson in front of the assembled press,”The team said it would take three or four weeks, but that was unrealistic. I’ve been on crutches for a week. You should have asked me, I would have told you the truth.”
Thompson also admitted that the injury was not just a strain, but did not want to give any further details. Now the injury is cured and the center is ready to help the team again.
