Olympic Games: IOC blocks Russian female ice hockey players – sixth place of 2014 withdrawn

In the Russian doping scandal, the IOC has suspended six out of seven accused female ice-hockey players from the Olympic Games for life and subsequently excluded the entire Russian women’s ice-hockey team from the 2014 games in Sochi (sixth place).

This was announced by the IOC on Tuesday. The number of Russian athletes banned by the IOC has thus increased to 31.

In the cases of Inna Dyubanok, Yekaterina Lebedeva, Jakaterina Pashkevich, Anna Shebanova, Yekaterina Smolenzeva and Galina Skiba, the so-called Oswald Commission considered doping violations at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi to be proven.

A seventh indicted Russian hockey player has been acquitted, and the IOC announced in a statement on its website that “further hearings on other athletes will take place in the coming weeks”.
