NFL: RG III:”Had offers from Cardinals and Ravens”
Robert Griffin III had a one-year, less spectacular guest appearance at Cleveland Browns in 2016 – since then the 27-year-old has been on the market. In an interview, RG III now revealed the concrete interest of some teams and explains why he rejected offers.
In an interview with ESPN, Griffin directly reported that he had “offers from Arizona and Baltimore” on the table in the off-season. In both cases, the former rookie sensation rejected – for different reasons.
“In Arizona, it didn’t suit me because they already had Carson Palmer. I was willing to learn behind an experienced quarterback who had a lot of success. But they also had a backup with Drew Stanton and they had already hired Blaine Gabbert. No one can give four quarterback training snaps. That was the problem for me, not the coach: You have a great coach who can handle quarterbacks. And it’s a stable franchise.”
Baltimore offered me a contract just before the first preseason game to start against the Redskins. If I had acted selfishly, I could have accepted the treaty. But I knew that I wouldn’t be willing to take the offense to make the best possible impression.”
He has indeed rejected the offers in the knowledge that “there is a chance that I will not play this season”. At the same time, however, RG III obviously hasn’t written off a chance before or even in the playoffs:”I haven’t given up yet in 2017. Some teams still need quarterback help, possibly in the postseason.”
