Golf: Good start for Kaymer in Abu Dhabi

Three-time tournament winner Martin Kaymer has made a good start to the Abu Dhabi Championship.

After six birdies and three bogeys, Germany’s best golf professional needed 69 strokes on the Par-72 course after six birdies and three bogeys and was three strokes behind the joint front runners Tommy Fleetwood from England and Hideto Tanihara (both 66).

Kaymer won the $3 million event in 2008,2010 and 2011.

For the other German starters, on the other hand, there was still a lot of work to be done. Maximilian Kieffer (Düsseldorf) came to the clubhouse with 73 strokes, Marcel Siem from Ratingen needed two strokes more.

For former world number one Kaymer, a good start at the Arabian Gulf would be important in order to lay the foundation for his fifth consecutive Ryder Cup participation. The traditional continental comparison between the twelve best golfers in Europe and defending champions USA takes place from 28. till 30. The event took place in the club Le Golf National on September 30th at the gates of Paris.
