NHL: Oilers’ sign of life: Draisaitl with two assists in Colorado

Leon Draisaitl and the Edmonton Oilers have finally celebrated another success story in the NHL after six consecutive bankruptcies.

The team around the youngster from Cologne won 4-2 on Sunday at home in the home-grown Colorado Avalanche, who had won the last ten games at home.

In the Avalanche, Draisaitl scored a 2-2 draw with Connor McDavid’s key equaliser and added another assist to the 4-2 draw. McDavid scored three of the four goals for the guests.

On Saturday (local time) the Oilers had taken a 0:1 at the tail light of Arizona Coyote. Draisaitl (22) was left without a shot in 19:01 minutes. In the opponent Tobias Rieder (25) tried it three times unsuccessfully and did not score a score point. Arizona now stands at 44 points.

Philipp Grubauer experienced a bitter evening with the Washington Capitals in the game at the last weak Chicago Blackhawks. With a score of 1:6, the national goalkeeper replaced Braden Holtby after two-thirds of the home team and had to take the lead once in a while. In the end it was 1:7.

On Friday, keeper Thomas Greiss had cleared the way for the New York Islanders to win with a shutdown. The 32-year-old from Füssen held all 45 shots of the opponent at the Carolina Hurricanes 3-0 and deserved special praise.

“He was great,”said coach Doug Weight:”He had confidence, came in and did the job. The day before, Jaroslav Halak, number one of the Islanders, had held 50 shots against the New York Rangers in a 3-0 draw.
