Olympics 2018: Short-tracker Wu wins sprint gold in world record time

Shorttracker Wu Dajing gave China its first gold medal at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang with a world record.

The silver medallist of Sochi 2014 won the final in the sprint over 500 m in 39.584 seconds and improved his own record from the quarter-finals (39.800).

Silver went to the South Korean Hwang Daeheon (39.854), bronze to his compatriot Lim Hyojun (39.919), 1500 m Olympic champion. 1000 m Olympic champion Samuel Girard (Canada) finished fourth in the final.

World champion Sjinkie Knegt (Netherlands) was disqualified in the first round. Sochi winner Viktor Ahn was not allowed to start because of the Russian doping scandal. There was no German participant.
