Olympia 2018: costs for the organisation of the Winter Games amount to 1.9 billion euros

The costs of organising the Winter Olympics, which will end on Sunday, and the subsequent Paralympics (9. till 18. March) in Pyeongchang is 2.4 billion US dollars (1.9 billion euros). This was announced by the organizing committee POCOG on Friday in Pyeongchang.

10.1 billion US dollars (8.1 billion euros) were spent on additional infrastructural measures related to the games. The biggest expense was the construction of a high-speed railway from the capital Seoul to Pyeongchang, 170 km away, for 3.4 billion US dollars (2.7 billion euros).

The total budget of the 23. Winter Games amounts to 12.5 billion US dollars (10.1 billion euros). The previous record high of 51 billion US dollars (41.4 billion euros) was reached at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
